I can download most attachments but cannot download .pdf files. I get an hourglass like the file is downloading but it never appears. When I search for the file, there are no results.

You might want to check to see if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.

If so, you may not be just downloading the .pdf attachment, your system may be trying to both download it and read it with Adobe. Depending on your connection, not only will it take longer, the .pdf file will be stored in a temporary location while Adobe works to display it so it would be difficult to find.

Whatever email system you are using, make sure that you are actually downloading the attachment. In most web-based email systems, you would need to "right-click: the link to the attachment and select "Save Link Target", which would allow you to choose where to save the attachment.
