(1) a relationship characterized by intense emotions where fights are frequent but attraction to one another is very intense; or (2) a relationship characterized by average emotions where fights are rare and attraction to one another is modest. In the first case, it seems the potential risk is that the attraction will fizzle out eventually. In the second case, I can see how this sort of relationship could lead to an unspoken boredom and unhappiness, a search for something 'better' out there. Yes, yes, I realize these aren't mutually exclusive categories, but I'm just saying in general. What's your feeling on this?

I think you need to have a combination of both of these things to have a successful relationsip. It is important to have the same intrest and get along, but it is also very important to have an intense sexual attraction to one another that WON'T fizzle out.

You must be a woman asking this question. Because its an easy question for a man to answer. Do you have the "Bad Boy" syndrome? The only time a modest attraction will "fizzle out" is if you let it. Keep it fresh; invent new and exciting things to keep your relationship alive. Your only bored if your a boring person. There are people out there that are both responsible and exciting... the 2 can coexist... Don't compromise.

Long term success should be built upon two things; the willingness to communicate about everything that's going on and the willingness to work through your problems together. Without those two ingredients, you don't have the solid foundation from which to build respect, trust and honor in your relationship. Give it a try and see what happens.

Respect and honor needs to be there. But attraction is great. So a mixture of both will keep the relationship stable.

well a relationship with a lot of fights is a recipe for disaster. Me and my husband never fight...maybe seldom, but few and far between. I agree though boredom is bad and sex is important.
