Yes! This would be a very important law in helping curb illegal immigration. Without the possibility of anchor babies, there would be decidedly less non-working illegals coming in.
I would actually support making it that only children of citizens (or at least 1 citizen) are automatic citizens - like the law is in almost every other country, even Mexico.
That said, I still think that the numbers of illegal alien workers in the US at the same time we have very low unemployment indicates that our immigration quotas may be insufficient, and that a sizable temporary worker program also needs to be implemented.

But what would happen to the children born to a couple comprised of one legal citizen and one illegal alien? Would they be half-citizens?
My personal opinion is that, unless at least one parent is a legal citizen or has a greencard, the child should not be given citizenship status for being born in this country. Anchor babies are going to cost us a lot of money as a country.

No way. Why punish the children? The alternative would result in having children who cannot get a public education ... would you rather have uneducated illegal immigrants or citizens with an education? I choose the latter ... it leads to fewer social ills in the long run.
Try not to let prejudice and short-sightedness bar your vision for the future.

No! Considering that practically the entire American population is made up of immigrants, that wouldn't be very logical. There is no reason that children should not be allowed to become citizens of their birth country simply because mindless bigots feel that immigrants are a burden.

That is a bad idea. This would create a permanent underclass of people that would have citizenship in no country. They would be at risk of being deported, even if they were born in country. They would be denied the right to vote. They would be permanently cast into low-wage jobs.
A really, really bad idea.

Of course if that law had always been in place only Native Americans could be citizens...

Yep. Automatic citizenship for illegal alien babies is absolutely ridiculous.

If you are born here you are a citizen!!!!! plain and simple, and if you go messing with that law, you will be taking away more freedom that we can not stand to loose.

Yes as it is long overdue. Out schools here in California are largely made up of Mexicans and they demand Spanish speaking classes for their children which I feel is wrong as the official language of this country is still English. Our hospital emergency rooms are filled with Mexicans demanding free medical care and the taxpayers foot the bill. No, time to pass the law and sent them all packing......
