Why do they warn you not to go there and definately not to ever move there. Why do they believe America is the only option? I am considering moving to Egypt and would love you opinions.

Because they assume that most Muslims are terrorists or that terrorist attacks take place in most Muslim counties.

America is the last place I would move. I lived in Afghanistan for work and I actually liked it. Now don't get me wrong it is dangerous with terrorist attacks so I wouldn't recommend it for a holiday but most other Islamic Countries are very safe. I feel safer walking down the street in Dubai at night then back in downtown Calgary, Canada. While I don't agree with the way some Islamic countries allow Muslim women to be treated by there families and husbands, as a foriegn woman I have found that I am treated with the utmost respect and am allowed the previlage of being in the company of either men or women.

I am living in Europe now but I still love the Middle East and I think me and my husband will always concider going back. We would probably concider, Qatar, Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, even possibly Saudi but only for a short time. There is such a charm to the Middle East that so many people miss out on because of fear. I mean me and my husband hope to go to Iran on a tour sometime, I wouldn't want to live there but I have heard it is lovely to visit.

Oh and I have to add the Middle Eastern food is the best.

Egypt is a fabulous country. Yes it is Islamic, but so what! What Egypt has is a very long history. It also has a modern culture second to none. I saw a guy on TV here in UK in Cairo reciting an old Egyptian poem - the poem takes seven days to recite. I did not understand one word but could have listened to him for seven days...no problem. Like wise the music and dance of Egypt. Some of the greatest singers of the Arab world are Egyptian. Remember, in Egypt the people are Egyptians and not Arabs by race. They speak Egyptian Arabic. Go there and enjoy. I must content myself with a few pictures of the pyramids and a bucket of sand.

Remember - although Egypt is an Islamic country it has the Coptic Christian Church - the oldest Christian Church on Earth - Jesus Christ in Egypt.

There is nothing wrong with living in an Islamic country unless you go to Iraq at this time. The people will still treat you with respect even if you are not a Muslim, there are many Christians and Jews living in Middle Eastern countries. I am an American and I have been to Iraq, Kuwait and in 2 months I am going to Iran for 1 month, I have never had a problem with anybody in the Middle East.

I strongly recommend you come to Egypt if you want to. I am an Egyptian, but also work in an international school, where almost all my colleagues are British and Europeans. They are all happy here and some of them have been happily living here for over 10 years.
One of my best friends is Dutch and she chose to stay here rather than her country because she says she felt at home here. She only left when she found her sweetheart and got married to him and because her mom's getting old and sick.

Safety is a huge issue. If the country has a poor record when it comes to protecting foreigners then I cross it off my list of places to see. I think Egypt is pretty safe compared to other Mid Eastern countries. Just be aware of your surroundings at all times, what ever country you're in.

I'm not afraid of the islamic countries, but I'm not going to go moving anywhere near the middle east right now, or any other unstable country. Why? Because I choose not to move near people who want to kill me for no reason.

No one is afraid of the countries, it's the fanatical islamists that hang around there. Egypt may be safer because it interprets Jihad as passive which also makes them vulnerable. The other Muslim interpretation is about taking over the world, killing infidels, and making everyone Muslim.

Islam is a relatively peaceful religion, however you will never know who is fanatical until you are alone with them and ask how they feel about Jihad or they just blow you up.

While speaking with a man I assumed was my friend I asked what his opinion was of Jihad, we would still be friends right, you couldn't kill me? He told me I couldn't be more wrong!
