I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

To maintain the "eye contact" part was always hard for me. My 8th grade teacher made us give a speech each grading period. After the 1st grading period and my awful speech, he taught me that you can SEEM to give eye contact if you look at the tops of the audience's heads. It worked and some of the anxiety was gone because I didn't feel like I was being stared at. Good Luck!

Take some deep breaths before you start, try not to look at the sea of faces either focus on a point just above the audience or someone in the audience who is a friend. Slow yourself down by taking a breath every now and then.

Something that works well for me is looking at people's foreheads and not directly into their eyes. This gives the impression of making eye contact, but you aren't as likely to get distracted and nervous when doing this.

You have to keep in mind that it doesnt matter what the audience thinks..it's all about YOU.and who you want to impress.if it's a teacher dont worry about the students..You have to act confident even if your not because people know when you arent confident..act like no one is in the room..and act powerful..talk on the stage with pride ..

i woudl contact your local Toastmasters. they will help you and critique your public speaking. If there's not one in your town. Speak into a tape recorder, on a video camera, in front of a mirror and and finally in front of family and friends and ask their feedback. when you listen/see yourself on tape you will know what you sound like and what to improve

practice practice PRACTICE... in front of a mirror, in front of friends and family, in the shower... just keep practicing. You'll know it so well, you wont feel as anxious.

Uh - would someone like to explain to me what is wrong with the idea of PREPARING for the speech in order to feel less anxious?

Just proof read and think about how the others looked and sounded then just go with the flow. People see you all the time. Why should it be any different?
