Do I unscrew the connecting water pipes clockwise or anticlockwise

Anti-clock-wise will losen the pipes.

REMINDER: Please turn off the water in the house. You never know what will happen. I thought that my Husband would remember to do this when he was doing some plumbing work in our house, but SURPRISE it never occurred to him to turn off the water.

Have a lovely (dry) rest of the day.
