Have you ever seen "The Final Countdown" it's a 70's Navy movie about the aircraft carrier Nimitz that goes back in time just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. They question whether to stop the attack or let it happen. It's pretty cool, makes you wonder what if such a thing could happen, time travel that is.

'A nous la liberte'. Great French early comedy.
If you are looking for something a little more recent then try 'White Dog' - about a racist dog very funny, but not shot as a comedy.
Otherwise the whole 'Old School' genre is good for laughs.
If you want something serious 1900 by Bertolucci is a masterpiece, whether you agree with his politics or not.
