There is more collateral damage from insurgent activity than military activity. This can be verified through various reports that have been made to congress. Also, we have not established a democracy, we have simply removed a dictatorship. Until the Iraqi people decide to bury their differences (sunni vs. shiite), the occupation of Iraq will never be over. Incidentally, I have been working in Iraqi detainment facilities for the last 10 months. I am currently working at one that houses 15000 "insurgents", and I am no safer now, with all these people behind chain link fence and razor wire, than I was 10 months ago. Every time I get into a humvee and go on a convoy, someone tries to hijack or kill me. We are not winning anything, we are simply occupying a breeding ground for religious fanatics who see anger and hatred as a way of life.

The basis of whether we are winning or losing needs to be detirmined by a number of factors. First, is the Government we have put in place supported by the people. Second, is our occupation supported by the people. And third, have we stopped the majority of the fighting going on in Iraq.
To the first, it's hard to say. The Government was elected in by Iraqi's but many still do not support it as well as saying it is illegitamate. Which may be true since you can argue that you can't have a fair election when a foreign army is still occupying the Country.
The second is easy to answer, polls taken in Iraq show that 6 out of 10 Iraqi's support the killing of U.S. Troops and even more than that say they want the United States out of thier Country.
And the third is the easiest of all. Thousands of Iraqi's die every month due to attacks. And this month is on it's way to being the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers since the war began.
So are we winning the War in Iraq? Absolutly not. We have caused much more harm than good and we have forced ourselves into a situation that we can't get out of, but that won't get better for a very long time.

WE ARE NOT. Iraq along with Afghanistan have become terrorist breeding grounds now. Is that winning the war on terror?

Because there's only one section of the country that's having problems (Baghdad) the rest of the country is pretty calm. Our troupes that are stationed in places other than Baghdad are bored senseless because they have nothing to do.

We are winning. We have established the first democracy in the middle east. There in itself is a victory.
