I was in town shopping. Mother asked me to get her something whitch cost £30.00, so I paid for it by credit card. When I got home, she repaid me the £30.00.
Friday is rent day. My rent is £30.00, so I gave her back the same £30.00. So please tell me what is the point of money?

The purpose of money is supposed to be a respected method of trade. But it's not.
In ancient times, gold coins were not always made of gold. Kings or emperors minted them with a cheaper metal in the middle and gold on the outside so it looked like the full value of gold and as a way to enrich themselves at the expense of someone else.
Here in America, in old mining towns, where the boss owned the stores in town, the boss issued "script" (I think it was called script) -- a form of money -- instead of the regular government-issued coins or greenbacks. Wages were paid in full but the value was discounted when the employees went to buy goods at the store.
As noted above, anytime someone else controls the issuance of money, you can probably bet you are not getting the full value and that includes modern day society, whether it is government or (possibly) a corporate employer.

Evidently there is no point. When my grandmother became too old to drive she sold me her car for a dollar. I told her I didn't have a dollar until payday and she walked over to her handbag, grabbed her wallet, removed 1 dollar, handed it to me and said "Happy Birthday", I thanked her and handed the dollar back. The deal was complete.
Good question- I've never understood the whole system of money. It seems crazy that we all just can't go to work, not get paid but you could walk into any store and pick out what you want and take it home. No money, credit cards or accounts of which to keep track. Everybody works to get what they want and everybody gets what they want because they work. Ah- Utopia where for art thou?
Have a great day!!!

So you didn't have to carry the groceries around for a few extra days to exchange in barter. After a couple of hours your arms would have gotten tired. It's a simpler form of accounting than trying to figure out how many chickens your rent is worth, and if you have a goat instead, do you get chickens back or do you still need to throw in an extra chick?

In this case - not a lot! I guess you paid your rent by credit card this time! So you will have £30 more to spend until you get your credit card bill!

From what I understand, "money" is just a really convenient fiction for a "something" that has whatever value we want to assign to it....anything can be used as a means of exchange, provided that the parties willing to accept it (chocolate bars, gold bricks, stock certificates, parcels of land, US dollars, bushels of wheat, etc.).
Commonly recognized currencies, like paper money (or its fancy siblings, in terms of checks or funds transferred by credit cards or equivalents) just make trading a heck of a lot EASIER....

Paying with plastic means unless you pay the full amount back you will pay interest on it, obviously cash is better, since you either have it or you do not!! people with plastic generally owe a fortune! those that do not may also owe a fortune and can not get plastic because of bad debt, or they are more sensible than most and spend only what they have!
