I had a lot of issues with hormonal forms of birth control and was pleased to find The Today Sponge via an online Canadian pharmacy last year. I used it regularly when if first came out, then it's sale was discontinued in the US for some strange reason. It had something to do with FDA saying that the water quality used to activate the the spermicide in the item may differ from place to place, which may affect the sponge's effectiveness. Whatever- I never had a problem. It is starting to become available in the US again, although I have not seen it at my local pharmacy.
The way it works is threefold: the soft sponge acts as a diaphragm-like barrier to prevent sperm from entering the cervix. The little buggers are then absorbed by the sponge and can't get out due to the fact that they are KILLED by the imbedded spermacide that is activated when you moisten the Sponge before it is inserted.
Contrary to other barrier methods, The Sponge doesn't have to be replaced or relubed before each sex act. You can keep one in place for up to 24 hours so you can be spontaneous. It warms to your body temperature and my parter said he could not feel anything different most of time; he felt the elastic removal loop on occaision, but it was not an unplesant sensation.
All Seinfeld jokes aside, The Sponge is a great, inexpensive, hormone free method of birth control that I wish was more readily accessible in the US again.
No matter what method you use, KNOW YOUR BODY. Conception typically occurs on or around the 14th day from the start of your period. If you have a calendar, you will know when you are most likely to be fertile and can avoid sex on those days.

It depends. If you are under 35 and don't smoke, the pill or birth control patch is a good choice. The Depo Provera shot - one shot every three months - can be great or awful. Some women have huge side effects, I had none. And would barely have a period. I loved it! There are some great new IUDs (intra uterine devices) on the market, no fuss, no muss. Your local Planned Parenthood is an excellent resource. Remember though, only condoms reduce your risk of contracting STDs!

i'd bypass with the IUD if I were you. I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years, and performance lately had it bumped off to attempt for toddler volume 2. The IUD develop into painless to get in, I had it put in at my 6 week examine up after my daughter develop into born. that's threat-free to apply if you're nursing your newborn, and it lasts for 5 years!!! Plus you do not could be demanding about pills or some thing else. the in elementary words imagine i did not understand when I were given the Mirena is it quite is can take awhile for your menstral cycles to go back to well-known after having the IUD bumped off. I had mine bumped off in December 2008, and in the previous couple months my cycles have ultimately again to well-known, except that, I particularly propose the IUD!

go to your gyocologist to find out. i was put on many types before i found one that really worked. it depends on what you are using it for. if it's to regulate (i use ortho novum- very strong), if it's for the hormones... just talk to your doctor.
