I always depend on friends for this kind of question but I wanted to see what the community thought.

I've been dating this lady for almost two years. We are NOT planning on getting engaged at this time.

However, I have refrained from getting her any jewelry as a gift thus far. We have always erred on the side of caution and prefer to "take it slow."

But I want to get her diamond stud earrings this Christmas and I've been doing some looking. I can find 1 ct. earrings in platinum for $2,000 to $3,000, which is in my price range. That is for 1 ct. TOTAL, meaning that each earring is only 1/2 ct.

Now I'm thinking that may not be enough. But to get 1 full ct. in each ear (2 ct.) the price jumps to $6,000 to $8,000 if they are set in platinum.

I could pull it off if I had to, but naturally, I'd prefer to keep the price lower instead of higher.

Is the 1/2 ct. in each ear an insult? Any one know of any places online that have great deals on NEW platinum stud earrings? Thanks!

wow u r so sweet. anyways the 1ct earring r fine. something that cost $2000 is definitely not an insult. its diamond after all and she'll love it. plus studs don't look good if they r too big. get the earrings from a jewelry store some online store aren't that reliable so u might not get the real deal.

That's not at all an insult, I'd love to get a present like that from my bf. He's never spent even a thousand dollars on me in the year and a month since we've been going out - total!!!!! She'll love the earrings - they sound classy.

I think 1ct total would be plenty!! That is great! I would certainly NOT be insulted. I don't think you should go bigger right now until things start moving ahead....1ctw is enough for now. Super! Oh and not sure if they have a website but Barton's Jewelers in Stuart,FL has awesome prices and GREAT diamond jewelry...my hubby and I buy alot of things from them. They have been great to us!!

Wow, that's an extravagant gift! The only reason I'd be insulted by a gift like that is it would prove that my guy wasn't paying attention when I said I didn't like diamonds. But considering I'm not your girl, you don't have anything to worry about.

I assume you care about this person, and always always remember, its the thought that counts, and i think that a 1/2 carat in each ear is enough, thats a really sweet and kind approach to telling your lady that you care about her. good luck

That is plenty. .5 ct are actually pretty large for earrings. It would in no way be an insult!

if i was the girl getting them i would want the 1 ct total. You have to think about the weight of them and if they will hurt her ears.

get the 1 ct.

depends on what she likes but 1/2 carat in each ear would probly be fine. Just make sure she gets them insured

That's enough, she will think it's great since you never got her jewelry before. Aslo that is a lot of dough to spend on her first jewelry gift. If she thinks it's not enough then maybe she is in it for money.
