if u get a instant message from someone u dont want...inside the message box..u will see a ignore button...press that...then they will be added to your ignore list......or u can go into preferences on yahoo messenger..click ignore..u can ignore anyone who is not on your friend list if that is what u want

Most IM clients/services have an option for you to ignore everyone who is NOT on your IM list. This enables you to ignore everyone else without you having to manually add each one to your ignore list.
Go to preferences/security tab for your IM client and just make sure to select "Ignore anyone who is not on my Messenger list"

I didn't know you could have a list! some weirdo named Nicole H keeps hassling me. I will see about adding her to my list...
