Hoping to stay in a nice hotel near the metro or if anyone knows of a place where I can rent an apartment for a week for two. That will be great also.

I suggest you hotel Ascot Opera - rue Monsigny no. 2. It's a small one, but very well located :2 min. walking to the metro station "4 September" and few minutes walking to the main beauties of Paris. Bon voyage !

I stayed at the Hotel California St. Germain, in the Latin Quarter near the Sorbonne. With two friends, we had a three bed/two room suite, with it's own bathroom. For 4 nights it worked out to $147 per person. It was a GREAT deal. Very safe neighborhood and the staff was awesome. It wasn't super fancy, but it was clean, comfortable and very French. We usually walked to the sites and took a cab back at the end of the day. From the Eiffel tower it was a $9 cab ride. We found the best rates on the hotel's own site.
