I keep reading in yahoo answers about people being racist to muslims but as far as I'm aware being a muslim isnt a race like being white, black, asian.

So am I correct in assuming that you cant be "racist" towards what isnt actually a race of people?

HOW DARE YOU come into a muslim area and ask a hurtful question like that!! But you're right, mate.

Islam is a religion of peace so just do everything they say, and you'll be all right.

Otherwise you will get your head chopped off.

No I am sorry your wrong a racist is being against someone because of race creed or religion not just race unfortunately yes they can be a racist to anyone. I know I am white and I am always being prejudiced against because where I live I am the minority. They tell me I have a low paying job because of where i work, although I make a decent living but they don't know that. They call me a racist without even knowing me as a person. They say (just because I follow my policies and the law) that I am being prejudiced against them, when I treat everyone the
same, but they don't see that. So still the answer is yes even because of actions that you do, people can still be racist against you.

Yes, it is the wrong term.

However the human, as an animal, is a pack animal and has a need to have 'an enemy' or adversary............ you see this with sports fans fighting other fans from a differant team and you find it with religions fighting other religions....... its just a means to maintain a foe.

If it wasnt religon or race then the human animal would find some other 'enemy' to fight !!!!!.
Its just that Yahoo answers, or the people answering, have decided to incorroctly choose the term racism as a defence against any answer that they dont like !!!!!

Technically you're correct.
However, many of the people you see here slamming all Muslims (and not just the terrorist ones) frequently lump all people of middle-eastern descent into the Muslim group -- that does make them racist :) They don't know that there are a number of christian sects among middle-eastern peoples, they forget about the Jews (which are very closely related ethnically to Arabs), and they don't care...'cause in their ignorance all people of middle-eastern descent are Muslims, and all Muslims are bad.

Bias due to ignorance is hard to overcome :(

Yes, that's correct except in Britain where you can be racist to jews who are listed as a race in the race equality act of '89 or '86 i forget which one!

Except that the vast majority of criticisms of Islam are very thinly veiled racism. Nothing to do with Islam, just do with the (perceived) colour of their skin and the suggestion that they are 'not British'.

For pure Islamophobia then xenophobic is the correct term. Although it's all motivated by hatred and ignorance so who cares what it's called, as long as we can stamp it out.

No they aren't being racist.

Instead they are being shallow minded when they lump a certain class of people into one negative lump sum.

It is for this human nature that people look at races, religions, and genders in a negative light.

Absolutely right! I get hacked off when ordered to respect 'faith'.
Prejudice on the basis of colour or ethnic origin is stupid and wrong. But if people choose to believe in bull shite, and follow oppressive, nonsensical rules, why should this be respected?

Well, you still could, since many people use the term Muslim interchangeably with Arab.
