I assume you mean Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps

Because of his outlandish behavior and activism, some have speculated whether Phelps might be an elaborate prankster or agent provocateur. Such speculation has come from across the spectrum, both from conservatives who find him to be too much of a caricature of their arguments regarding the religious right and liberals who believe he must be consciously trying to discredit social conservatives:[54]

The group is so outrageous that some among the extreme-right have speculated that Phelps is a plant aimed at giving the anti-gay movement a bad name, said Mark Potok, the director of the intelligence project at the Southern Poverty Law Center which tracks hate crimes.

This belief, however, is not limited to the "extreme right." Libertarian author Keith R. Wood originally suggested, in a column in 2004, that Phelps is being sponsored to give Christians a bad name. This theory has been repeated elsewhere since then. Such claims, however, have been contradicted by claims of Phelps' estranged children who have argued their father's beliefs are very real.[55]

An alternate theory is that Phelps and his family (of which many are lawyers) are trying to provoke others into attacking them physically so that they can sue. To this end they deliberately choose high-profile or heart-wrenching cases and picket at extremely emotional times such as funerals.

They are all insane. If you are against the war that is one thing, but these men and women that serve this country are protecting them and the very right that they are abusing. Without our soldiers, they would not have the right to freedom of speech. They need to take a long hard look and learn not to bite the hand that feeds them.
Then they were going to protest the Amish girls' funerals. I heard that their signs were going to say something to the effect " your girls were whores and deserved to die" It makes me sick to even type it, but to get the message across, people need to know. If these people would have come to PA, a group of us were going to go up from Pittsburgh and stop them. These amish people never did anything to anybody, have never seen them on tv and would be totally confused of why they were there with their signs. It doesnt make sense, but if they come to an area around you and word gets out that they will be there, do your best to stop them or at least block the view from the families of these brave men and women that fought for our country.

They think that all of the worlds problems stem from "allowing" homosexuals to live as "normal" people. They are complete wack jobs. Recently, they were going to protest at the funerals of the little Amish girls that were murdered and didn't due to some national radio host offering them an hour of his show for their message. These people are obviously going to hell.

They are just hate mongers. And most importantly, they aren't Christians. They preach some sort of Christian ideals... but I believe that Christ asked us to love on another, turn the other cheek, etc. The New Testament taking precedence over the Old.

They are unchristian, preaching hate, and intolerance. In the great U.S.A. we have to respect their right to speak. I think it is important for us to hear them, and realize "hey, they aren't Christians, they're lying about that... and if they're lying about that, what else are they lying about?"

Keep praying for them, but make sure that your friends and relatives talk about them, and make them understand that they aren't Christians (and not good either), and as we convince more and more people, we'll marginalize them, who knows? maybe out of existence?

If reminiscence serves me, they weren't protesting the fallen soldier even with the indisputable fact that the actual shown actuality that there are gays in the militia and they used the funeral to protest antagonistic to the gays. they ought to were ran out of city and their van (with both flat tires) dragged down the line and out of city on that's suitable!
