last night, i went to the E.R. cuz of a boil/abcess under my arm...it was there for 4 days and got progessively bigger and very sore to the point where i was crying..The physican's assistant gave me lidocaine and she obviously did not give me enough cuz i felt EVERYTHING..my boyfriend knows how much of a wimp i can be so when i was screaming and taking breaks for ice water and saying it hurt during the prodecure, he did not think anything of it. I was in to much pain to talk. Worst pain i ever felt. When it was over and done with, both the nurse and my boyfriend knew i was in tremedous pain and shaking a lot. my boyfriend told me the nurse looked nervous. I got percocet as the pain was so bad....now i have to go back to the E.R no later than sunday to have it checked and possibly packing removed. Will that hurt? do they do it with lidocaine at that time or no? my poor 8 yr old daughter broke down when we got home as she had to see her mommy in great pain.

i got prescribed some medicine for infection but not for the pain. they just gave me percocet at the hospital as they felt bad. I do have darvocet and 800 milligrams of ibuprofen left, will that help the pain? I am still feeling sore , migraine and dizziness if i walk around for a long period of time.

this has worked for me, i have a policy...you hurt me i hurt back. i was a cancer patient, spent a lot of time in and out of the hospitals. usually, if they know you mean business, they will take care of it, girl if you were awake, you should have told them to back off, you have to do your part. they will do theirs. i have had nurses, back out of the room, go get somebody else. you gotta do what you have to.

The packing removal should hopefully be painless. They will simply pull the gauze out of the area...very simple! The main reason to go in, is to be sure that the area is not becoming re-affected. I am sure the procedure did not feel great, but anesthesia works differently with each person. If you have to get this again, tell them to wait until the area is numb.
Also, the infection could be MRSA, and it's location under your arm suggests that you need to be cleaner. Make sure you shower every day, and wash under your arms thoroughly to prevent them from coming back. The darvocets for pain are WAY more than enough.Good luck.

A boil is very painful, no matter where it is. I think the P.A. probably did everything correctly. Did you ask for more pain medication during the procedure?? I can't believe they wouldn't give you more medication for the pain.
Were you given an antibiotic? Boils are usually caused from staph infection and you need meds to clear it out of your system.
When you return to the ER I would tell the person that sees you exactly what happened last night. Then say something like, "maybe I am just a big baby but I don't want any more pain. Give me something stronger." Most health care people will listen to you. They don't want you to suffer either.................
Ask them about the chance of it recurring without taking anything for the cause of the boil.

I don't know if your next prodedure will hurt or not, but you should do what I do when I go to the dentist - sweetly explain that you have a very, very low threshold for pain and that a 'normal' dose is not going to cut it for you. I've always had good results from just being plain honest!

i assume there was infection and no matter what kind of medication or how much to numb it, its gonna hurt!! i assume you had a staph infection. I had one on my chin during chemo. the doctor numbed it 4 times.....it hurt and i could feel everything.
they did not mess up. the nurse was probably stressed because you were stressed. many times a good nurse will feel just as bad for the patient than the patient does.
what you experienced was normal. you also have to take in account that the skin under the arm area is extra sensitive.
*for everyone giving bad advice....staph infections HURT with or without numbing medication....they have to lance it for three reasons....for testing, for pressure and to release the pain....
if you are still having strange symptoms, i wouldn't wait for a test result...i'd see a doctor today. staph infections that close to the heart can be deadly.

I don't know if it will hurt or not...I'm sorry for you though. I had a visit to the ER last week after I cut my fingers in my PC case...next Friday I will have the stitches removed and that will hurt a lot. In my country there is a custom: Give money to the nurses and docs that treat you otherwise they won't take good care of you, no matter what insurance you have...maybe you should do the same...I usually put about 20$ in an envelope and give it to the nurse or doc...

Yopu should have gone to a walk in clinic or made an appt with your own doctor before the infection got so bad. You had 4 days to do this. People are clogging up ERs with non emergency medical needs. Leave the ERs for the real emergencies.

Mexicans and other legal/illegal immigrants have ruined our hospitals. In california, 1 in 6 have shut down in the last 10 years. They get expensive medical procedures and pump out several children without ever paying a dime. We need to boot them out of our country and hire White or Jewish male doctors instead of Indian women or African witch doctors because they can get them for cheaper. Just imagine how it will be when the Democrats enact socialist health care. I feel bad for you. Good luck.
