Why do you need to know his feelings? If it isn't really that important, don't press the issue, or you may lose the guy.
Having been in the Army, I was taught not to have feelings because they could cause problems while fulfilling a mission. It took a long time before I could open up and there are still times when I cannot.
Your guy may have things in his past that prevent his opening up, or he could have been raised with ideas like "Big boys don't cry" etc. Another thing is that he could actually be nervous about talking about certain things with you and worried that he might be embarrassed telling you things. Many things are hard for guys to talk about to their wives of many years. Give him some space about it. When the time is right for him, he will tell you how he feels about things.
