can you prune back a new guinea impatiens plant and get back all new growth and blooms next spring? my son gave me one for mothers day and it's done blooming but it's gotten kind've scraggly. and the leaves are getting chewed up. would it help if I pruned back?

If it's outside in the cold it will die. But if it's indoors you can pinch it back. If it's really scraggley make it into a project--don't pinch it back all at once. Pinch back 1/3rd and when new leaves start to come on those, pinch another 1/3rd and so on. Cut your fertilizer in half while doing this. Once the whole plant looks decent again you can fert full strength.

Keep it in a bright area but out of the full sun and out of drafts and don't overwater.

Impatiens are not a hearty plant. The next time you get an impatient that scraggly start pinching back some of the new growth.That will make it fuller. if you have a place in the house that the temperature does not go over 65 degrees you might be able to winter it over. No bright windows.

Yes, you can baby it through the winter inside and then put it out next spring where it will grow and bloom again for you.

Hi. I don't think new Guineas are perennial plants. I had one to come back from seed this year, but that was out of many, many that I had planted.
