Amen this is so right on. I am very proud of you for posting this.
1 Timothy 6:6 Godliness with contentment is great gain. Everyone I know that has gotten divorced has so much materially on the outside looking in you would have thought they have everything.
Right now my husband and I are staying with family rent got too expensive and we are relocating all we have is 30 boxes and our paycheck to our name we really do not have a lot materially as we gave it all away.
My point is your are right society screams too much is never enough. I grew up in a large family and we were not given everything we wanted when we wanted it. We had to work for what we wanted and we were expected to pay our own car insurance as well as room and board when we were 18 and finished high school.
I used to have a hard time with comparing myself to others, this is a character defect I surrender to the Lord daily.
My experience has been this if you are not happy with little you will not be happy with much. Life is not about getting everything you want it is about making a difference and helping your fellow man.
Yes you are 100% right it it a CHOICE to be thankful grateful and appreciative God bless you this was an awesome post. Thank you for encouraging me.

It's the new commercialized civilization we live in. Everyone is constantly bombarded with advertisements on a daily basis. It's on TV, it's on the radio, it's in everything we read, it's on the Internet. There's always someone telling me that I could have such a better life if only I had this, or everyone else has one of those, so you should too because if you don't you're not as good as they are.
It's very difficult to look at your 5 year old car, or your 10 year old house now and say "Wow, I'm happy to have this". It's "Wow, I wish I could buy a new car" or "Wow, this place needs some major renovating"
Damnit people, grab a coffee, sit on your ***, talk with your kids, and don't worry about things so much. Quit trying to keep up with the Joneses, because they're bankrupt and twice divorced, and last I heard their kids were suing the pants off of them.

My experience is going to a college where almost every other kid there could buy or sell my family 20 times over. These kids had not worked for their money and privelege, it was handed to them. There is so much wealth in the hands of so few people if peope REALLY understood it they would be mad as hell. Equality and your fair share is something worth fighting for. It's why this country was created.
I've also travelled to other countries and seen crippling poverty. People working 16 hour days and cannot even feed thier families, babies dying of diahhrea, dehydrating because of no clean water, and the moans of staving people and the coughs of the sick so loud you can't even sleep.
Simplicity is a noble goal, but in this society EVERYTHING has been set up so we have to compete with each other even to eat. Maybe a major change in the system would be a first step.

This is the Polly Anna style.....look for the good in everything...which has some merit...but if we never evaluate and look to how what we do and have can be better where would the growth be....if we are just content with how things are then we are stagnant and that can actually be viewed as a form of death....my philosophy is "Winning isn't everything, but making the effort to win is" which means do you best, look to improve, be satisfied knowing that your effort was all you could give, then move on and look for your next best effort performance.....

We can't all just be happy because we all wish to be equal- but obviously we are not. Why should a homeless person wake up in the morning and say 'Oh, even though I see that rich couple pass by me everyday and turn their noses up at me, I choose to be happy.' ?
Why should a minority say 'Oh, the cops falsely accuse me of something almost everyday, yet my white friends never receive that type of treatment- even still I'm just gonna accept my lot in life...'?
That's not realistic at all. People are not happy because we all know things are not fair, yet those who have do little, if anything to make things better for those without.

I have always found that travel, especially to so-called Third World countries around the globe, and seeing the way people struggle in those places (and are somehow the happiest, most non-complaining people in the world) is the best way to suddenly realize how blessed one is with what he or she has.

i agree..there is SO much negativity out there! so much "i deserve this, but not getting it, it's Not Fair!"
what the heck?
first of all, i think u can't really complain until you do your damn BEST to achieve Life, Love, Happiness, Healthiness..... only when u have exhausted all your means, and have Nothing to show, THEN u can complain and feel that life is "unfair". until then, i think we should all just throw ourselves into learning more, teaching more, growing, seeking Positive, Healthy, Happy things in our lives, and THEN looking back to see where we are lacking, instead of focusing on the negatives....is that so hard to do??
yeah...have u ever realized that it's so much easier to b*tch and moan instead of do something and work to be more positive?? sad... we are a lazy world. i feel that we are regressing, and we need to constantly Work hard, and Use our Brains to PROGRESS in a positive manner. no matter how much technology, science we come up with, it won't do us any good if we don't know how to Appreciate, Learn and Grow to become BETTER each day. :) good luck to us all... we are all worthy specimans, we owe it to ourselves to seek the best there is in life!!

You would think, right?
I totally agree with you and am saddened by the way my children's generation is becoming.
Trust me, when we're old, we're gonna be on our own! That's a scary thought. But, I'm gonna pray it gets better.

It's all very sad what we all are seeing happening to our world. People really seem like they have no feelings anymore. I try to smile at everyone I see. Some people actually look at me weird like if to say "Why are you smiling at me ? I don't know you."
I WILL KEEP SMILING.
