My son's teacher continues to smack my 8 yr old son. It's 2 times now that i've noticed marks of fingers on his cheeks. After warning him to stop smacking him, he continues. My son who was doing well in his studies and he has never missed school for even one day, now he's telling me he doesn't want to attend school. He is scared now. he has changed so much. Today he smacked him because he had done a mistake in maths. Is it a reason to smack a young boy like this?

Well, let's see. First of all I do not know of any school system in the United States that allows a teacher to smack a kid. Any type of physical discipline is illegal. If this were my child I would report this teacher ASAP before this teacher does any more harm to your child. Sounds like your son has already suffered psychological impact. A child can heal from surface bruises but not bruises of the mind. Please I beg of you to report this.

Bound's hubby, a teacher, here:

I am not coming to the teacher's defense here, but are you certain it is the teacher and not a classmate doing the smacking? You suggest your son's teacher is male, but facial slapping does not sound to me to be the actions of a man.

I agree, in most states corporal punishment is illegal, and in Texas (where I know it is still legal) only the principal can administer the corporal punishment.

What I would do, since the hitting is inappropriate, is the following:

1) When your son comes home with signs of having been slapped or hit, take your son to the Emergency Room, to have medical personnel document the abuse. When you identify why you brought your son in, and you identify your son as being the victim of "Insitutional Abuse", the hospital will notify your state's Youth and Family Service".

2) The Institutional Abuse Unit of the Youth and Family Service Agency will launch an investigation into the teacher and the school. Chances are fair to good that the teacher will be temporarily removed from the classroom pending their findings. The Principal may also be suspended.

3) The Institutional Abuse Unit's findings will influence what happens next.

Just a few notes, presuming that your son attends a public school, the Principal can not fire the teacher, that is a function of the School Board. The teacher is entitled to Due Process, so the school board will launch its own investigation, and probably wait upon the findings of the Prosecutor's Office and the Youth and Family Services agency. Based upon the actions of the Prosecutor's Office, the School Board may terminate the teacher.

Contact the admistrator of this school. Unless you have given permission for corporal punishment at a private school, what he is doing is ILLEGAL. No teacher has the right to touch a student with out the students permission. The teacher can be arrested, suspended from his job and you can sue both the teacher and school. Make sure he is taken from his job and then follow him. The scool may let him go and never put this on his record. He will get a job somewhere else and do the same if not worse to another student. Step up and protect your child!

i became smacked by skill of my father and mom and do not imagine some thing of it, often times toddlers want a wonder to lead them to pay interest so worse would not happen (eg taking section in contained in the line) yet only my father and mom ever smacked me, i don't think of a few different person will be interior of rights to smack a baby. instructors could enable father and mom recognize if there's a mission. the component is, some toddlers have undesirable father and mom who'll be better probable to aspect with their naughty baby than the instructor or who gained't self-discipline the baby in which case the instructor has a authentic mission. An out of control baby. I worked in a school with thoroughly out of control toddlers and they ruined training for some thing of the classification, no man or woman learnt some thing. For those toddlers the probability of a cane as contained in the previous would have saved them silent while now they recognize no longer some thing is going to happen. i do not recognize what the answer is as i does no longer opt for instructors hitting my toddlers yet then i'd make confident my toddlers behaved.

Oh my goodness, you need to complain!! That is unacceptable. Even if you signed the paper allowing them to discipline your child, the only acceptable form is a swat on the butt. They cannot smack your child in the face.
Complain to the principal, the school board and anyone else who will listen. Call your local news and let them know what is going on too. Your child is probably not the only one this has happened to and that teacher should be fired.
Good Luck!

I would at this point take it to the police. It is considered child abuse if a parent spanks a child, I cant imagine it being any less if somebody else does it. You need to stop this asap and find out if he is smacking any other children. Maybe if several parents complain at teh same time the teacher will be in more trouble. good luck!

You go STRAIGHT to the principal. Do not be nice. Do not try to negotiate. Tell him you want that teacher FIRED IMMEDIATELY or you will bring a law suit against the school district for abuse against your child.

HOW HORRIBLE!!! That really makes me angry!!!!

I hope your son gets through this alright.

Also demand that your child be removed from that class immediately and placed with a teacher of your choice. Do this directly monday morning, don't wait another minute, unless you are on the west coast somewhere, get out of work right now and head straight to the school.

There is no reason to "smack" anyone. Take it to the principal. If they don't respond properly or effectively, take it the School Board. Then if nothing happens still it's probably, unfortunately, legal action time.
