The moon is 238,857 mi. away from the earth. For the record, we figured out how far away the moon mathematically long before we went there in the late 60's and early 70's.

The moon is at an average distance of 238,855 miles (384,400 kilometers) away from Earth. That is about the width of 30 Earths. Because the moon does not orbit Earth in a perfect circle, but instead travels in a slightly elliptical orbit, its distance from Earth varies between 225,700 miles (363,300 kilometers) and 252,000 miles (405,500 kilometers).

The Moon is about 384,000 kilometres away from Earth, but it does not stay exactly the same distance away from the Earth throughout its orbit, so sometimes it is closer than at other times.

According to the Russians, presently is is some £100.000's which mile per mile not a bad 'FARE.'

As far as 'far' goes, it keeps shiffting (as do we), so it varies.
