Jez thinks she is being clever but is not. A Jewish yarmulke or Sikh turban do not hide one's face. Jack simply spoke truth when he said it is a barrier to communication and understanding. This country should start demanding newcomers respect its values, and one of those is about the equality of women. Muslims who think they can't be seen should grow up. Jack Straw has risen in my estimation for saying what he did this week.

Yes. Its about time someone spoke up! No doubt someone in Government will pour scorn onto him.Perhaps we should take a leaf out of Jack Straws book, and open our mouths a bit more, after all,he has taken the lead.!
JEZ. Its because of people like you, that the country is in such a state. How about these people try respecting us for a change? It seems they want it all THEIR way,if not, they can be pretty nasty. Is that respect? I think not. I'm sure Jack Straw knows the law better than you or I. Since when has it been a crime to ask someone to remove their head or face gear?? It happens daily to us when entering banks, building societies etc. Why should we make an exception? Why should they be different? Had Jack Straw been committing a "crime" I'm sure he would not have said what he did. Wearing the "veil, is NOT part of their religion anyway!!!

Don't entirely agree with Jack Straw but glad he has the balls to say what he thinks without worrying about the PC brigade. We are entitled to our opinions.
Anyone read "Littlejohn" in the Daily Mail bemoaning the one way traffic of "ism" laws. The muslims protested outside Westminster Cathedral calling for the beheading of the Pope (hardly peaceful) yet no Police intervention; had the catholic congregation retaliated guess who'd have been arrested. UK law should be applied to everyone in the UK, no-one is above or below it. Anyone wishing to live under a different law should live elsewhere.

He`s not a hero in the sense of the word Enoch Powell said something a few years back & respective governments since then have been biting their tongues because he told the truth & if there one thing governments don`t like is people who tell the .....

I agree totally with what Jack Straw said.

As for this government listening to the general feelings of the people in this country regarding our concerns, then I think you should forget it.

This government has no thoughts for their own, only foreigners, ethnic minorities and immigrants, legal or otherwise.

Yes, He was not unreasonable in his request for Muslim women to remove their veils when attending his surgery and during private consultations. its not like he's requested they remove their veils in public or denounce their attire or cultural tradition.
Whether this Government will ostracise him for his opinion remains to be seen but I'm sure he as many supporters.
Common sense should prevail and put this matter into perspective where it belongs and not on the front page of the Tabloids.

Jack Straw is awesome, just like George Bush, he makes the tough calls that the silent majority knows needs to be made, while all the liberal pieces of crap whine.

I say he hasn't done enough. He should carry on where Enoch Powell left off. (When in rome do as the romans do) If these people want to live in this country they should live by our rules. If we go abroad we have to live by thier rules When is someone going to stand up and say enough is enough and sort out the immigration problem that the majority of this country want done.
