Set up a website with all the relevant details and features, a friend of mine runs a charity organisation, and through his website and local media publicity, receives some much needed help.

There are so many charities vying for funding or sponsorship that you need a huge slice of luck, a lot of hard work, a very persuasive pitch, and best of all a gift of using your contacts in different organisations to maximum effect.

Larger organisation like Tesco, and Vodafone tend to only have one 'charity of the year' but go for quite local firms who will be keen to be sen to be supporting you.

Good luck.

promote a psecific project with specific goals; and show how it could become self-sustaining in time. Big donors don't want to fund annual budget lines or things that will be permanently dependent; they want to fund winable goals.

They also want to back viable organizations: Don't beg, present a comnpetent plan by a compentent orgainization - tell them how long you've been around, what your previous successes have been, and present an appearance that suggests you'll still be viable without their support. No one wants to support an org that looks like it will fold in six months.
