I think it is always hard unless you get a lawyer! You can have a real case and they will deny, deny. I had this happen. When I got a lawyer (they get 25% here from the time you filed) Then I was sent in-front of a judge and it took all of 5 minutes and he apologized to me and I got my benefits. I had been waiting for 2 years to get it. I had to pay the lawyer 25% from day one, even though he only worked it for 2 months. I swear no matter how true your case is you won't get it in MI without a lawyer.

The problem lies with not having enough money to finance all QUALIFIED peoples' claims. Complaints on government's philanthropic mission to help anyone even illegal immigrants is valid since there are a lot of Americans who needs help but cannot qualify for any welfare benefits because they don't fall in any category that welfare agencies are looking at. I have a relative who recently retired and getting less than $1500 monthly pension but has a share of cost of $1,200 whenever she uses her Medical and Medicare benefits and therefore ending up paying all her MD's visit and medications.

And don't forget that your Social Security benefits are taxable. This was done by Clinton when he had a Democrat Congress prior to 1994.

Because social security is going broke. So, they're raising the minimum requirements, so fewer and fewer people qualify for benefits. Another government scam !
