my boyfriend dreamed, the night before his operation, that he'd die from heart failure on the operating table. He even met his dead relatives and saw himself dead. The operation was cancelled by the doctors after they couldn't do a test on his heart that he asked them for so we don't know, but I'm worried now as the dream is too specific and he won't have that test due to money reasons.. he also said in his dream 'he wasn't ready' (to die). I'm quite worried now. And what if he'll have the same dream again before he's due for the operation?

There is enormous responsibility in answering a question like this, but I respect your desire to ask the question just as enormously.

Unfortunately there is no exact 'either/or' answer to your vital question. Dreams express a fundamental uncertainty as to the outcome of events on the physical plane. They are still truthful, but part of that truthfulness is an uncertainty that is built into the very structure of the dream itself. Modern science now understands that the notion of the Greek Oracle is not quite accurate. Things are not absolutely preordained. At a deep level there is a fundamental uncertainty as to what will happen - particularly when the interpretive mind is involved. What medicine wants to do is to try and minimize this uncertainty so that things can be restored to good health.

This means that your boy-friend's dream does not have to mean that he literally was going to die. It could also represent a 'symbolic' death of sorts - which is certainly important but not as important as actually dying.

On the other hand it is also a real possibility that he had picked up the alternative scenario that something was going to go wrong. Meeting relatives on the other side is potentially significant. This can occur in near-death encounters in which an individual does clinically die but is then brought back by fortuitous circumstances and lives on to a ripe old age to tell the tale. But it also seems that it could have been warning of an impending life-threatening situation.

I think you are wise and right to pay close attention to this dream. It has probably offered you a warning that something could go wrong. Equally important is to also pay close attention to your waking instincts. If your waking instincts are warning you that something does not feel right - or that several things do not feel right - then you must swallow the bitter pill and try to obtain a solid second or even third opinion about the operation.

With a dream of this magnitude and category, I think you really must take it seriously as uncomfortable as this may sound. Do not let yourself be lulled into a complacent belief that everything will just be fine. I made that mistake recently with a TMJ disorder which is much worse than it sounds. I did not properly heed all warning signs that were producing terrible anxiety. I have since had to travel 1,100 miles to a new TMJ expert who is categorically different from the previous one. I wish now that I had heeded my anxiety and all my dreams as well as other 'signs'.

Best in this case to weigh in on the side of caution. Don't just plunge ahead carelessly. You want the operation to go ahead well. You want this man to be well afterwards. His dream is rather extreme so I would pay close attention to it.

Try to get another expert opinion or two if you can. Then see what happens to both waking anxiety, the way the doctors are treating the situation (diagnosis and prognosis), and any further dreams. I doubt that dream will repeat itself. If it does not repeat itself it probably means it is viable. So you want to both feel that the situation has become more sure and more stable. You want people to be very honest and decent with you. They must be straight as arrows - despite all financial transactions or plans.

I very much hope you can get this onto a good track.

I had three episodes of Emergency 'open heart surgery' inside a two week period.

I had no such dreams, before or after.

The fact that his dream did not foretell the 'cancellation' of the operation tends to suggest that this was 'just a dream.'

It is likely he will dream again, especially if there is a high level of anxiety about the whole episode. Just try to keep his spirits up (sorry if that sounds like a cliche, it is not meant as such, but there is not much else one can say to really be helpful, however much one can want to)

I wish you both well.
Sash.

No he wont die...dont worry. Aparantly death in dreams is a positive thing it means starting fresh and being stronger. Im sure the seeing of dead relatives is just anxiety and they could be wishing him luck and comfort. Use money on things that really matter regardless of the later consequences, after all why do we have money in the first place?Operations are always scary but he will get through it...you both will. Be strong xxxx

No no no, dreams signify all sorts of things. Dreaming about death, does not mean you will die, you are just not suceeding in some aspect of your life. This sounds like anxiety, and maybe seeing his dead relatives, was them coming to him in an anxious period of his life, like angels, it happens, beleive me, they would want to reassure him, they are watching over him. He should have the operation, if he needs it, that is more dangerous than not going ahead. Tell him, please calm down, your dream did not mean you were going to die, it means you were very spiritual that night, through fear of death, and i am positive, you "saw" angels, trying to reassure you. God bless!!.
