Poppin' open bottles of Cristal has been a staple of rap videos for the last several years. But, last week Cristal exec Frederic Rouzaud said the brand is trying to distance itself from the rap community:

"(It's) unwelcome attention. What can we do? We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."

No. If I am the seller of an "exquisite" product, I would not want it associated with hip hop artists, pop stars, or rock stars. Only top notch stars (like Meryl Streep). Its not like Quincey Jones is pushing the drink, men who talk about killing, ******** hoes, and are low lifes are promoting it. I don't care if they are black.

how can you contstude that as racist? Rapper are not a 'race' of people... creed or color... what are you on about?

As for Cristal... there ain't a gosh darn thing they can do about who buys their product. They should be pleased for having the business - indeed.

No i don't think it's racist. Their trying to distant themselves from that kind of lifestyle which any type of person can lead not a particular race of people. I think that it's totally justified.

In a way, no it's not a racist statement, but it did smell of racism behind it.
I hope rappers boycott it. Make him realize how stupid it was to make that statement.
