It's easy. It's much easier to generalize the behaviour of a small group of people based on skin colour, ethnicity or religion rather than to seek out other explanations (e.g., access to health and education).

Besides, once we believe something about another group we humans tend to only look for behaviours that help substantiate those beliefs. Thus perpetuating a myth and helping to entrench it in popular culture and society at large. We see it played out everyday in the media and in our communities. It's the same reason why people look at me and automatically assume I am from another country, "oh, where are you from?"

I've learned to live with the idea that I can't change people and educate everyone. I can only work on changing myself and take every opportunity for dialogue.

Ignorance and narrow-mindedness. I also believe some people judge others by the color of their skin because they have low self-esteem. If you feel good about yourself as a person, you won't have the desire to put other people down - particularly an entire race of people.

Kelly V - you don't think (some) people judge others by the color of their skin anymore? Exactly what planet are you living on?

Depending on the individual, there may be lots of reasons, but one reason is humans tend to fear what is different. Color of skin is easily discerned and thus may cause an immediate judgment. Thoughtful question.

Judging is the enjoyment of a conditioned mind. A conditioned mind builds wall of resistance and believe that he is exclusive and the most important person in this life. A conditioned mind is not intelligent, love is nowhere to be found in his heart, everything is selfishness.

It's because of instilled intolerance ... for example a racist parent will show certain reactions to a person of color through certain facial expressions for example... and her baby/child picks up on that... if it's verbally accompanied by intolerant remarks towards people who look different... that child will surely be a racist, too.

It's not colour people judge other people by it's attitude. Our environment usually predicts our attitude. No matter what your colour if you are brought up in a Ghetto or a slum environment you will pick up that attitude. If you are brought up in a rich, snobby area you will pick up that attitude. If you are brought up with nice, kind, sincere people you most likely will pick up that attitude. It's about ATTITUDE NOT COLOUR. IT'S ABOUT THE VIBES YOU GIVE.

Because their mind cannot understand that the universe revolves around them and also because they fear people that are different from them. As a defense mechanism to hide that fear they convince themselves that they are better than any other person.
