Well, they "ought" to be in school. But if there's no food in the house, you gotta do what you gotta do...

I actually had to work full time and support myself when I was underage and still in school. In my case it was good that I could work because I needed the money. But I would have been better off now had my parents supported me then. I just ended up having to work harder and endure more that's all.
But many countries are much worse off because people don't have the opportunity to go to school or have good jobs (or any jobs). There are also any instances where parents just exploit their children for more money.
So it's hard to say if child labor is right or wrong. I would say that if a person has children, it is their responsibility to provide for them (including provide for the best education possible). But when the children are just there and they are not being provided for (which happens way too much), they are better off working than starving. That whole situation is hard though.

I see no advantage, the child that is slaving away basically for free is not getting an education and only learning how hard life can be at a very impresionable age, the creeps who employ these children are only adding to the third world legacy of their country, nothing good has come from this through the ages and nothing will.

Pre-industrial revolution children were engaged in factories and hard work. There were no labour standards, and many died on the job particularly through lack of abilities to handle heavy pieces. Are today's children any better off? Aren't the countries where child labour is acceptable working without labour laws?

Advantage. Children learn to value work and earn income earlier and able to help their parents. They are able to deal reality with industry.
Disadvantage. They are deprived of regular and better education because of time alloted more to work. They also miss the joys of childhood and development

If you were crippled by a mine that exploded long after a war and your food came today because your five year old grandchild managed to work hard enough for it, I believe you'd agree that child labor isn't wrong.
