The main difference is on the Dateline show, the pervs are actually making appointments to meet the girls they think are under age. I haven't heard (yet) of any evidence that Foley tried to do that. I'm sure that's one of the avenues the FBI is looking into.

This is an easy one. White, rich, ellite and Republican. When it comes to underage, same-sex scandals, the Republicans can spin like nobody's business. Anyone remember the male prostitution ring debacle in Bush. Sr.'s White House? Of course not. Other than a few articles June 1989 in the Washington Times, the story got buried quicker than Vince Foster. Send money to some mosque in Pakistan, and you'll do 15 to life in prison. Rape a kid, and do less than a decade. That is what is truly wrong in America. As children are our brightest asset, the least we could do is make any crime against a child a Class A felony, with life in prison or death the only penalties.

If there is any evidence that he broke the law, he should be arrested. But so far, all that we know he did was send IM messages to a 16 year old (or some say 18 year old) boy.
Last I heard, they are still investigating, so you never know what will happen.

Because they don't always arrest you until they have a case. You are only immediatly arrested if you are caught doing the crime. Many crimes the person is not arrested until charges have been filed and enough evdience to convict has been secured.

What would be the charge.. Even the FBI had to drop the case of the emails.. and apparently you are not keeping up to date on the news.. those emails were doctored, as claimed by the FBI. The definition of pedophilia usually requires personal contact.. What would be the charge????

Technically all he is guilty of so far is sexual harrassment. Nobody has come forward with any proof that he solicited sex from anyone. You can't throw people in jail just for being creepy. or most of congress would be there already.

Because sending text messages isn't a crime. if he acted on it or tried to actually sleep with the kids, he would be in jail, but just talking dirty...

They are still investigating. I think if they find anything against the law they will arrest him. He will not get special treatment because of his status.

I think they're still trying to figure out what happened exactly.
I'm sure once they figure it out, they'll arrest/indict him if there was actually a crime committed.
