I am looking at the ones with the freezer on the bottom. I have heard that Amana are a good brand. Any suggestions, complements, complaints about any specific brands would be appreciated. What about GE? I saw a GE Profile that would fit great!!

According to Consumer Reports, Whirlpool has the best repair/reliability ratings. Whirlpool Gold is equivilent to GE Profile. (That being said - I have both Whirlpool and GE in my kitchen, and they're both good.)
Beware though - Kenmore makes some great appliances, but they don't always know who makes them. I bought a Kenmore fridge because I was told it was made by Whirlpool, only to discover it was made by Frigidaire. We've had horrible problems with it.
As one person told me: "Wet and cold - Whirlpool. Hot and dry - GE."

We bought a GE five years ago - side by side and four years and 11 months the freezer iced all over and the fridge side was luke warm at best. They came out and replaced the part - there was a five year warranty and they fixed everything, no charge. The new part itself is now under warranty for five years.

I have an amana and like it well enough
I would go with what looks best, I like a nice looking kitchen
fits best, ice maker, side by side,
with a filtered drinking water source.

check the economy rating, A+, A, B etc. Although power consumption is low, it is on all the time.
