For centuries Afghanistan has been in turmoil, thats the way they are.
The British Empire, The Russians have learned the lessons.
How is it that we are back there and how has NATO got anything to do with Afganistan.
Leave them alone and let them live in thier own culture, even if we dont like it. Revolution against bad governace comes from the people not from the wishes of foriegn powers and corporations to build gas pipelines through the territory.
The USA has (as stated) handed a "poison chalice" to the stupid Europeans who foolishly grabbed it, and now can't even find the soldiers to enforce the mandate.

I couldn't agree more. History repeats itself and people keep repeating the same mistakes. In Afganistan the people has learned to live in a way that the Europeans or Americans cannot understand and cannot live. They don't even have toilets and this is a fact. Only some rich people do. A kid there is so tough because of the way and the enviroment that it is used to live that not even the toughest marines can survive easily in this environment. You can't force people to live in your own way. They have their way. They always had and they always will have.
And ofcourse they can't find soldiers to go there because they just don't volunteer and in most European countries the soldiers are asked if they want to participate. But who would?

You're right, but if you're watching two kids fight over a toy and while they're not looking, you can easily steal one of their bottles...
Too bad these weren't kids, and now in front of everyone else, the US is the world's biggest bully, who's now having problems, since they can't just let go, or atomic-bomb'em, because they would waste their precious.

Yep, they do know the history but always think they can succeed where their predecessors failed.

Something to do with their "legacy" or "making a name for themselves" or "going down in history", they all want to be remebered like Washington / Napoleon / Trafalgar etc.
