i also had group B Strep when i was PG with my youngest. They gave me the antibotic through my IV line and i never even knew that they had even done it because i was to busy with everything else going on. I honestly didn't even out of the ordary on the antibotic, it felt like i was in labor with my first child and i didn't have strep B then. So i presonality didn't feel any different. the anitibotics worked for me and i had no risk as far as i am awhere. hop emy experience helps, it's really nothing to be worried about and the antibotics will be your last worry when the time comes around . best of luck

I laughed a lttle when I read this because I promise you, the last thing on your mind before, during and after labor will be the antibiotics. You will be experiencing so many other emotions that this won't be an issue for you. I too am GBS + and will be recieving antibiotics for the 2nd time around. I got them through a heplock IV in my hand during the 1st pregnancy. The one thing I do suggest to you is to make sure that you designate a family member to make sure that you do indeed get the antibiotics. If left untreated, their is a risk that your child can die. I had a friend who ended up having a C-section and they didn't give her the antibiotics because they thought she didn't need them since she wasn't having a vaginal birth and her baby died 2 days later with Step B. As long as you recieve the antibiotic, you and your little one will be safe. If they give you penicillin, a warning, it does burn if they pump it in to quickly. Just have them turn the speed down on the machine if you experience this. I had to have them every 4 hours at a slow rate because of this. You'll be just fine :) Enjoy your pregancy and best of luck to you!

I too have group B strep. I received antibiotics during labor with my daughter 2 and 1/2 years ago and did not notice any difference in the way I felt while the medication was infusing (when you are so focused on the fact that you are about to have a baby, something like antibiotics doesn't really affect you). Make sure that your physician knows about any allergies you may have to medications so that you don't receive anyhting you are allergic to. Also be aware that once you have group B strep you always have group B strep and you will need to be treated for it with any subsequent pregnancies.According to my doc, group B strep is a different strain of strep that develops when you have a case of strep throat (usually as a child). There is no "cure".

I also tested positive for group b. I went into the hosiptal to be induced. They started giving me the antibiotics when I was about 5cm dialted. Then gave me another dose 12 hrs later (after my son was born) I didn't feel any different whatsoever. The antibiotics did work and everything was fine. There weren't any risks of having the medicine. I was just as nervous as you are and everything was fine. Just relax. The last thing on your mind while in labor is going to be about the antibiotics.
Good Luck and Congratulations!

This should help, My experience with iv antibiotics was ok but did mean I couldn't be as active in labour as I had been with my first 3 but apart from the needle going in it doesn't bother you otherwise, there are a few small risks with having the iv but when you consider how dangerous GBS can be to a newborn I think it is better safe than sorry. Thankfully none of my babes contracted gbs but a friends babe did (she didn't know she was a carrier so no antibiotics) and spent a while in special care.
Good Luck

You won't even know.. they put it in the IV, which you have to have anyway. Absolutely nothing to worry about. You do not need any antibiotics prior to labor. I've never heard of the dosage your dr described. Like I said, the only thing is they put it in your IV when you start your labor, it only takes 30m or so for it to take effect. The chance of the baby getting it is very very low.

The antibiotics won't make you feel any different. It's just like when you take them when you are sick just though an IV.They will not add any risk, and the main reason is so the baby doesn't get infected. It doest relay have anything to do with you.

I had it with both of kids. It didn't make me feel any different. It sound like you have a lot of questions. Maybe call the nurse and speak to her about your concerns. But I didn't have any problems from the antibiotics. You will be fine.

My cousin had it and she didn't notice any diference. Its just antibiotics..you aren't even going to notice that they gave it to you. So just relax and enjoy the experience of giving birth.
