Don't get me wrong, I love fat people, in fact I have a bunch of them in my neiborhood. I just don't believe that 300+ pounds can be sustained by a Wendy's side salad and a Diet Coke. Calories are consumed SOMEWHERE...is private maybe?

It is a crock and we are all challenged by weight gain. When I just let myself go I gain weight too.

I know for a fact that the thyroid is not a "crock". Until I was 16, I was skinny....ranging between a size 2 and 4. Then, a tumor was found growing on my thyroid. They had to remove half of my thyroid gland. I continued to eat the same amount and exercise the same, but grew up to a size 14 over the next 10 years. I have managed to lose about 35 lbs over the years, which has been difficult. I know for a fact that its not a crock. Thyroid disorders cause problems with fertility, metabolism, depression and mood, and your memory. It is not a crock.

However, I will not deny that there are people out there that do indulge and gorge. But please do your research before making such hurtful statements.

While some people might have an eating disorder in which they "gorge" on food, this is not the case for all overweight individuals. Many people suffer from Insulin resistance (pre-diabetes), thyroid problems, depression, and plain old laziness. People with under active or overactive thyroids have a very serious health issue. It has nothing to do with them "gorge". In Fact, thyroid issues often cause people to be very tired and lethargic. This is then interpreted as them being lazy.

No, Thyroid problems are a definite recognised disorder. ot's often treatable with various drugs like Methimazole but really a Doctor needs to prescribe. Fat people don'e necessarilly like to eat any more than you or I, they just don't burn calories the same way we do. they also get on a viscious cycle where they aren't able to move as easilly, and thus have a harder time burning the fat.

Studies show, people burn about 10 calories per Lb of body weight per day, so me at 200 lbs, I have to eat 2000 calories /day to maintain my same weight, (pretty easy) a thin girl at say 125 lbs only needs 1250 calories (not much food) to maintain. but a fat person at 350 lbs would need 3500 calories. not so hard, but yes it's more food. if it was that easy people wouldn't get fat, unfortunately ot's a sliding scale, the more you weigh, the less calories per lb you burn so a 350 lb person might actually only burn 5 calories per lb. which is less food than I @ 200 lbs need to eat in a day. Sure if fat people watched their diet, they could lose weight, but it's not easy, and a lot is based on biology.

No it isn't a crock there are fat people who eat well but still pack on weight as though they're being inflated with a compressor pump, and there are skinny people who gorge and don't put on any weight.

People have different reasons why they are over weight, some do just like to eat and some do have legitimate physical problems that cause them to be overweight.

The thyroid gland secretes hormones that regulate metabolism, growth, and development. "Hypo" thyroid is under-active, and yes, its imbalance can cause weight gain (see metabolism). "Hyper" thyroid...too much...get it?
