We all walk around pretending to be Christians and then something like this happens and we realize that we have far to go to be true Christians. This is what I learned this week the meaning on the line in the Lord's Prayer, forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. The Amish not only say the words they practice the words. Perhaps this is why this terrible thing happened to remind us that we all have a lot to learn about faith and to put us in touch with our faith. Pray for the little girls who are still with us and pray for the dead. Do not forget to pray for all the families maybe even more for the family of the man who did this as I think their pain may even be greater than the pain of the Amish parents.

Absolutely nothing! The ability to "forgive" may be considered a virtue. However, as practiced by the Amish according to their philosophy, it is nothing more than an excuse to avoid conflict and responsibility.
Yes, they have "forgiven" the family of the murderer. So what? They did nothing, on any level or in any way to encourage or assist the murderer. If anything, it shows the amazing arrogance of many in that sect.
These "humble" people practice forced conformity, will not allow their children to continue attending school past the 8th grade, limit the flow of information into or out of their cult, insist on special treatment under the law, ignore laws that they see as contrary to their beliefs and generally thumb their noses at our institutions, our traditions and our society as a whole. That is, until they want others to come to their rescue. Then, when it's advantageous to them, their more than eager to accept our sinful technologies and assistance from the "sinful" police that will risk their lives defending them while they refuse to defend themselves or their families.

The girl who was killed in Bailey, Colorado, her family was also an example of something to be learned. Their daughter was first raped, then shot. Yet, her last words were, "I love U" and after she was killed, her parents asked that everyone do a randomn act of kindness in her memory because that is what she would have wanted. Truly a lovely family to react that way, and I hope everyone across the world did to a randomn act of kindness, if nothing more then put some money in a parking meter for an overdue car

No matter how much we try to avoid the outside world it still effects us. Their lives are not so simple because of this and how they try to live within their elements and their religion to survive and still try to maintain some dignity. I'm sure they are not without their own issues of sexual abuse or emotional abuse. In a way it is better that this was not one of their own who did this. With religion becoming more and more under the microscope these people don't have much of a choice but to reflect what they have been taught and not to become hypocrites. This one girl may have been an elder and was in charge of the others. She was the closest to age and may have offered herself to him because it was her responsibility. There is much more to this story than we have heard. She was a victim of a deranged person conflicted with reality and religion.

I agree with you. It is inspirational how the amish as a community has faced this unspeakable tragedy with such dignity and grace. I hope that this lesson will not be lost on the rest of us.

I agree. The Amish are amazing people. Because of their "simple" lifestyle they are much closer to their families and neighbors stand together on most everything. You get a wonderful sense of community when you visit. (And Unbelievable craftsmanship!)

we need to be more like CHRIST and less like ourselves, as CHRIST was humble to the death of the cross so should we be to those things taught in GOD'S WORD. these people have shown their true belief in GOD. i raise them up in prayer and also in thanksgiving for their display of obedience to GOD'S WORD. may we all follow in the same example as these people have.
