Put cheerios on his tray and let him use his own fingers. The other thing you might try....give him a spoon of his own (the kind with a loop for a handle works well). When he tries to feed himself, help him by moving his arm so he gets the food in okay. Some kids just want to be independent and do it themselves. Maybe you are feeding him things he doesn't like! Try foods you know he'll enjoy first (applesauce and other baby food fruits). Don't try veggies and meats until he's eating the fruits okay.

have you tried the airplane game? make engine noises while pretending the spoon is an airplane and his mouth is the hangar where you have to park it. seems to work with alot of kids. or just keep putting the food on a tray in front of him and keep working with him. my girlfriend had problems with her son but she kept trying and eventually he gave in to the spoon. yours is still really young yet. have patience my dear :o)

Finger foods are a good alternative, as some babies just like to be in control of what they eat. You could also try giving the "runny" food as a dip - ie getting your baby to dip finger foods like banana into yogurt.

Try to introduce finger food. Maybe he wants to feed himself & finger food would give him some control.
