ok... First off I am an RN and have had an abnormal pap. And actually cervical dysplasia is 99% of the time caused by a STD called HPV... not the type tat causes genital warts....Most women tend to have no effects when the get this... However some have abnormal paps. They will do another pap and maybe a biopsy. It is easily taken care of so dont worry about it. Many men are carriers but they dont test men for it or treat it in men. Interesting add on they have now developed a vaccine for HPV to be given before a woman becomes sexually active. Dont loose sleep over this and follow up. Good luck!

no.

did you have one before your pregnancy that came back abnormal? many times, if a woman has cervical dysplasia (pre-cancer cells on the cervix) giving birth vaginally will slough off those cells. if you had them before and during the pregnancy, the doctor could be checking to see if the birth took care of them.

also, there are many non-std bacterial infections that can cause an abnormal pap smear. you should call and talk to your doctor about the results.

When it's an STD or any other type of gynocological infection, it's treated, and you are told to return for a "repap.." HOWEVER, if it still comes back as being abnormal with abnormal cervical cells present in the biopsy, it's usually followed by the colposcopy for further studies.

Please, please understand that having HPV would not recommend you have maximum cancers. the possibility is truly very small. as quickly as I had an weird and wonderful pap years in the past I freaked... i did no longer tell every person because of the fact i develop into optimistic it develop into maximum cancers and that i wanted to 'morn' myself for slightly. while i ultimately broke down and informed my mom it grew to become out the two she and my aunt had the comparable situation... with *NO* maximum cancers ever exhibiting up. back as quickly as I had this the proceedures have been diverse... i do no longer comprehend in the event that they ever truly did an entire out 'biopsy'... they only scraped some cells which they examined and located to be 'precancerous' (i'm guessing that equals HPV... i comprehend it develop into HPV and so i'm guessing that's what they meant by potential of this term). Then they did a 'freezing medical care' this is now no longer finished and had me get extra customary paps for the subsequent year or 2. It by no potential back in any respect and it truly is been over 10 yrs. be chuffed to e mail in case you think of chatting extra would help... yet truly that develop into the tip of the story for me and from what I hear this is *often* the case. :) desire that enables!

No-- the main reason for getting the test is to see if there are any abnormal cells-- tending toward malignancy-- in your cervix. So-- in order to begin any necessary treatment on time, it's an early detection check for cancer-- not STDs.

I had an abnormal pap, they had to do a biopsy to check for precancerous cells. It was not fun, came back good but I had to do a follow-up biopsy if I remember correctly.
