I currently work in a retail store, so there's no IT guy (or gal -- and yes, there ARE gals who do this in some places! *grin*). However, back when I worked in an office setting (at two different newspaper groups -- at different times, of course), at BOTH places, the IT guys were awesome! At my first job, the guy was totally reliable, patient, friendly and polite. He never made anyone feel "less than" because they didn't understand something that was going on with their computers.
At my second job, I didn't get to know the IT guy as much, since I wasn't at that job as long, but from my interactions with him, I thought he was an extremely nice person. He had a funny and fun personality, and was always glad to come to someone's computer aid, even if he had to go out of his way to do so.
I've actually never heard of the "stereotype" of IT guys being jerks or divas. I'm sure there's some out there, but I've never run into it personally. And come to think of it, some of my friends who work in office settings have never had problems with their IT guys either. They have good things to say about the guys, not bad! :)

By and large, yes. They think they are on another plane of existence since they can peck on a keyboard better than anyone else. Without the rest of us doing our jobs correctly, they would have nothing to justify their pitiful existence to. They seem to forget that the object of the game is not for them to just keep their system running. The object is to get sellable merchandise out the door with as little problem as possible. If the company cannot produce product, they have no need for I.T. people.

We don't have local IT people, but we have two that come from other states when we need something done. We are all hooked up to a Wide Area Network. Our two IT guys are gods. They are both very nice, very helpful, and will answer an e-mail or phone call quite quickly. Love 'em.

Nope. But some are, because they think they are better than everyone else because they don't know anything about computers.
I would recomend that you talk to your boss about the issue and let your boss talk to the IT guy. If it still happens, then talk to your CEO and discuss the issues.

LOL, what else do we have to do, but to stay on Yahoo Answers all day. After making everyone else feel stupid and inferior, they seldom ask to do anything for them.
