If you are still under contract, you are going to be charged a cancellation fee ($200 in Cingulars case.) It is going to be charged to your bill, just like overages or ring tones or whatever. If you don't pay it, they will cut off the rest of your phones. Eventually that will show up as a negative mark on your credit.

However, if you dutifully pay it then there will be no negative hit against your credit.

If your contract is over, then there is no negative aspect at all to canceling the line. Unless it is the primary line. Then you are going to have to re-designate another line the primary line and resign that lines contract.

Good luck.

As long as that phone on that line isn't under contract. If it is, then you'll likely face an early termination charge and a bad mark on your credit. If the contract has expired, then you're in the clear. Add it up to see if it would be cheaper to keep the line active or pay the early termination.
