do you offer her an altoid, a piece of gum, you don't and look the other way, etc.?

Believe me, she would rather know, even though she'll be embarrassed.

If you are just a friend, it is easier. Offer gum, Altoids, etc. and say "I'm sorry but your breath could use some freshening". And then quickly add that you carry the Altoids because you frequently feel you have bad breath and you would like her to tell you if you ever get bad breath.

If this is a girlfriend, you have to be more sensitive. Tell her what you love about her (list several things). And then say, "I'm sorry but once in a while you do have bad breath." After saying that, reiterate that you care for her and that you just thought she would want to know, especially since bad breath can be a health issue.

And if it is a girl you don't like....just tell her that her breath is rank and she had better buy stock in Listerine!

That sucks, but yeah just pass her a piece of gum or something. But make sure you take one too, you don't want to hurt her feelings. Don't tell her you'll make her cry. After a while she'll get the hint and carry her own mouth fresh stuff. Maybe drink a lot of water with her.

About the only thing you can really do without being blunt is offering her a mint or some gum. You could always ask her what she ate....."damn woman what did you eat today sheeesh " then laugh if shes smart shell get the hint.

Forget the gum and mint idea. They don't work. The only think that stinks worse than bad breath is minty bad breath. The only cure for bad breath is to have good dental hygiene. Flossing and using a tongue scraper (or brushing your tongue) every time you brush (at least twice a day) is the only cure. Last time I had to do this I just said, "Baby, I like kissing you but your breath is a little stale." Tell her to look at her tongue, if it has a white coating on it, that stuff is stinky bacteria; and she needs to start using a tongue scraper, or brushing her tongue when she brushes her teeth.

First of all, most people would like to know if they are offending people with their breath. I know I wouldn't want to walk around and have people knowing me as the woman with bad breath. If you care for her, tell her in a nice way. Perhaps mention that you are concerned that maybe she is not feeling well, or something of that nature, if she cares about you, she will look into it.

nuclear_science said it best, bad breath is a sign of underlying dental problems. cavities, gingivitis etc causes bad breath. just tell her her breath is bad and offer to go with her for a cleaning and/or checkup. she may have a phobia of the dentist and needs some gentle persuasion.

Continually ask her if she'd like gum or a breath mint.

Just ask her if she'd like a mint or a stick of gum. Just don't make a face while doing it.
