I stopped playing about 5 months ago but for the year before that I played it. It has subsequently become an elitest arena in the upper levels but getting there was alot of fun.
The game play is awesome and I had many hours a day playing the game. You litterally have another life, but through a game. It is appropriate for almost any age.
You make friends...
You have an online job
You adventure, you get stuff
You get angry, sad, happy, frustrated, scared, thrilled and a multitude of other feelings while playing the game because you get into it.
You will need to have a half decent computer and an even better video card to handle the game.
Go to www.blizzard.com and view the game and content. It will blow you away.
Good luck and enjoy!!!!!!!

World of Warcraft is a "Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game" (MMORPG). It's one of many, but it's THE most popular in the Western World - and judging by my personal experiences, it's perhaps the most accessible game in the genre to new players. It's won over even the most die hard sceptics amongst my friends, who couldn't imagine ever playing an online game!
In the game, you choose a race - so you could be an orc or an undead, or maybe a gnome or elf - and a class, like a warrior, priest (healer), or mage. You do quests and go hunting to gain experience, and as you can experience, your character goes up in level, giving you access to new spells or skills, better armour, and or course, more quests. The quests have been well designed to send you to areas appropriate to your level, and it's possible to level almost entirely through quests.
There are also tradeskills available - so you could become and engineer, gather herbs, or make potions, as well as learn to fish, cook, and perform first aid.
Every so often, Blizzard have a free week's trial, and the game is downloadable from their site. This is only every few months, however, so if you'd like to try the game sooner, you'll need to buy the box. The first month is free, but after that it's $15 a month to continue.
Whatever you decide, enjoy!

YEah I've played WoW since closed Beta almost 3 years now... It's been quite fun, and wasted almost 3 months of 24/7 gametime. But hey it's entertainment. Come To Darkspear, I'll help you out.
