In the US for a major airline, a flight attendant's salary is $35,000 to $50,000. They also get access to free/low-cost travel and they stay in nice hotels while working. Meals while working are paid, too. Some flight attendants really like the ability to travel; to others, it's just a job.

Most flight attendants make $20,000 or less (about 10,000 pounds) - I read about this recently in a New York Times article. They do get some privileges when it comes to flying, but these days the airlines make it so difficult for them to actual use those benefits. The only people who make decent money are the attendants on business class/first class international flights.

Believe me, a flight attendant doesn't earn much in the United States. Flight attendants gross between $15,000- $20,000 to start excluding per Diem. Max. after approx. 14 years is about $40,000. Per Diem is approx. $5,000 a year for everyone, regardless of seniority. Generally, based at larger cities.. European airlines offer a better deal for their employee's, but this is mainly due to a higher minimum wage and higher requirements to become a F/A.
