I think they stay if they are manufacturers' warranty.
But not on extented warranties.
I bought an 04 land rover at a used dealer and it had to be taken for an electrical repair and I pay zero dollars because it was still under warranty.

I think it depends on the specific make of the car.
I know for a fact that hyundai's 100,000 mile/10 year warranty does NOT transfer to a second owner, but other makes might.
