He's been shown to do it in Dark Knight Returns, and also in an old issue of World's Finest, the one where the actor Ronald Jason was dying and he tried to put on one last performance to fool Batman and Superman. Superman and Batgirl teamed up against Batman and Supergirl. Batman wore gloves covered with Kryptonite so he could beat up Superman, and did.

Now, Superman and Batman had seen through the dying actor's hoax, but they didn't want to make his last days miserable. So Batman actually used fake Kryptonite. But Batman and Superman didn't tell Batgirl and Supergirl that it was a hoax! That way the actor's game worked partially and he had the satisfaction of having given the finest performance of his career.

The point is that, Supergirl had the same powers Superman had, and she had to be fooled by the act. So Superman and Batman had to conspire together to make it realistic enough to fool Supergirl, which means that if it HAD been real Green K, then Batman COULD HAVE clobbered Superman's butt!

One does not need superhuman powers to kick Supermans A** ,Lets take a look at Lex Luthor, no powers there either but he regularly hands Superman all he can handle. Also remember Batman given sufficient time to paln could even syntesize Kryptonite, as seen in the Dark Knight returns, He would have Old Big Blue chasing his own tail and then Kapow, Zowie Kryptonite bullets.

They have tangled in the past once during the Frank Miller series where Batman took Superman down by tapping into the cities power grid and stunning him.

More recently during the Hush storyline Batman fought Superman and while he did plan ahead by using trickery and the Kryptonite ring he(Batman) would not have been able stand up to Superman in a prolonged fight.

Given enough time and planning i feel Batman easily has the intelligence to defeat Superman in some manner, but in a straight up on the spot fight Superman would destroy Batman.

According to the creator, Batman has only enhanced brain power, slightly higher than normal strength, crap loads of money, a few super computers for crunching data, and lotts of COOL toys.
Superman has too much strength for batman to even touch Superman.
If these two were really fighting Superman could fart Batman far away into space where he cannot breathe and there would be no way that Batman could have the upper hand at any point.

Hell no. The biggest complaint against Superman is that he's too perfect. Bruce Wayne is just a bored rich guy that is too stupid to buy a gun. However, he'll just use his vast resources to monitor Superman, gather a class action lawsuit against Superman for busting up all those buildings, bridges, etc and sue his red undie plastered butt for damages. Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent doesn't make much money at the Daily Planet so he'll just rot away in a little lead and kryptonite cell for all eternity waiting for Lois to post bail.

Edit: I gotta get my hands on them graphic novels Monitorhead's talking about. I've heard of them but damn, that sounds awesome!

True enough.... no powers, just skill, training, a mindset to win, and a plan to succeed. Batman is the kind of person who is willing to do WHATEVER is needed to to win (except kill). Batman responses to a threat with a larger reaction.... Recently Bane (the guy who broke his back) threatened him and Batman dropped a skyscraper on him! This is a man who carries around a Kryptonite ring just incase his best friend needs to be smacked around! Batman threatened Darksied (DARKSEID!) with the absolute destruction of the planet Apocholypse! It was a gamble he was winng to follow through with. so yes... if need be Bats could kick the living cr@p out of Supes. He'd do it on HIS terms, not Superman's.

Let me state emphatically that I believe Frank Miller is a minor god...and whatever he says...I will believe without question.

All one has to do to prove that Batman can in fact kick Superman's @ss...is read Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Falls" from 1986. It is the 4th and final graphic novel in his "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" series.

Here's a brief synopsis...

"Though near death from wounds inflicted during his fight with the Joker and the police, Batman applies his ingenuity to restoring law to Gotham. He and Robin muster a force of SOBs and train them in non-lethal methods as a means to stop looting and ensure the flow of needed supplies. Gotham, ironically, soon becomes the safest and best-fed city in America. Seeing this as an embarrassment rather than a blessing, the U.S. government dispatches Superman to take the Dark Knight down. Warned of their plans by Oliver Queen, the former Green Arrow who is now a bitter one-armed revolutionary, Batman prepares for his ultimate clash. Armed with an artificial powered exoskeleton, the Batmobile, synthetic kryptonite and a mysterious pill, Batman confronts Superman in a final showdown at Crime Alley, where Wayne's parents were murdered decades earlier. Batman manages to defeat the weakened Superman, only to die of a heart attack at the stroke of midnight. At precisely the same moment, Alfred oversees the destruction of the Batcave and Wayne Manor, suffers a fatal stroke immediately afterward (his last thought as he realizes that he is dying is "how utterly proper")."

So yeah, Batman had to use his brains, his tools and the Green Arrow...but he methodically planned his attack on Superman...and knew it would cost him his life to do so...but he f-ing did it anyway...and kicked his @ss!!!!!!

'Nuff said.

Maybe. Remember Batman does have the ring made of green kryptonite that he made just in case Superman went insane and needed to be contained.
