Corolis effect was a good answer as well as the fact that the rotation of the Earth is what gives us day and night.
For the two morons who said gravity, gravitational force has nothing to do with the rotation of the Earth. Gravity is a property of the Earth's mass.

Gravity is caused by the earth actually bending spacetime. The Earths rotation causes many things, weather patterns, the Coriolis effect, day and night, year after year. The northern lights. Which brings me to the fact that our atmosphere, esp. our ionosphere is caused by the spinning of earths hot iron core.

The spinning of the earth creates the wonderful phenomenon of day and night. As the spinning is constant and there is no acceleration as such (not linear acceleration anyway) we are not affected by the spinning as would be expected of a centrifuse machine or the feeling when a car accelerates quickly. The spinning may cause more though, like weather patterns, changes in polarity, etc.
The importance of daylight is quite important however, and without that and a cool off period found at night, we could really be in for it.

The earth rotates around once in 24 hours.
The time it takes for the earth to rotate
completely around once is what we call a day.
It's earth's rotation that gives us night and day.

It's a very slow cycle. It takes my clothes forever to shake off the excess water from the rinse cycle.

Coriolis, day-night, tides and if you would please visit my site at www.geocities.com/scifuntubes/... you will see how we can take advantage of the mechanical motion of the rotation of the earth as a form of alternate energy.
