Since it is wet already, and I am assuming that the leak has been fixed, then just shampoo the entire area again to knock out any smell from the padding and carpet.

Do this quick, as letting this sit more than a day or two will cause any musty and mildewy smells to get even worse. Also...AS others have said, I would use a shop vacuum to pull out as much moisture as possible, then run some box fans in the area for days afterwrds to make sure that you have dried out everything as much as possible. If you live in a hot or humid place, then run the AC to keep down the humidity and help dry everything out.

Your goal is to do this ASAP or you will be faced with a ugly smell you can never fully get rid of unless you lose the whole carpet and replace it with new stuff.

First you'll have to somehow get all of the excess water out of the carpet (to avoid mold problems and the nasty stench). If you can get access to a Shop Vac, that would work the best. Then turn a fan of some sort on the carpet to get air moving and hopefully dry out the carpet. Good luck.

Best way is to get a wet/dry Shop Vac or something similar...ensure this is done asap as otherwise mold will develop and carpet will be ruined in that spot.

Good luck

Shop vac or the best way I have found is to run a carpet shampooer over it to extract the water. If you don't have one you should be able to rent one from your local grocery store. Good Luck

I would completely remove the carpet and lay down tiles or a sheet of linoleum. No carpet in bathroom.

If possible lift carpet and put fan on to try otherwise open windows and keep a circulating fan on the area for awhile (few days)

use a shop vac to suck up most of the water and then put fans on it to dry it faster or open a window if you have one in the bathroom.
