ADSL is asyncronous therefore the voice side of the phone line is separate from the data side although it uses the same "wire"
To those who say broadband is nothing to do with the phone line your wrong.
You can get cable broadband which doesnt use the phone line but ADSL is also broadband and does require a phone line (as does ISDN)

Yes, broadband is unrelated to the voice features you have on the line.
Broadband ADSL modems do not "dial out" as stated above. They communcate via digital signals in a completely different way to dial tone.
So long as you have an ADSL modem, and the switch room has a DSLAM ( DSL access modem ) you are OK.

Broadband uses your cable connection and not your telephone. there is no reason that your landline should have anything to do with your connection.

Yes - I was on incoming calls only once cos I didn't pay my bill (it was enormous) and my broadband was unaffected.

No because ADSL actually dials to connect to the Internet, even though you do not actually hear the dial tone, you still have to dial to connect then when you use a router it then becomes a always on connection, unlike the stupid USB Modems they provide you, which only gives you a internet connection everytime you have the computer on, I hope this clears this up for you?
