Metals are better conductors of heat, that is they absorb and dissipate heat faster than wood, which is a poor conductor of heat. Given the same set of surroundings, the metal bench would release energy faster.
To answer why both benches are dissipating heat is because of the fact that in unequal heat situations, elements try to get to the same temperature (dont remember the Thermodynamics primicple name), therefore the benches being hotter than the surroundings, try and dissipate heat to the surroundings to come in equilibrium in terms of temperature, but as the metal bench dissipates faster than the wood bench, it is cooler.

The wood bench will hold on to any residual heat it has gathered during the day, the metal one will also hold on to heat but not to the same degree.
