"Buy the ticket, take the ride" -Hunter S. Thompson

Mentioning Hunter S. Thompson to your english teacher is guaranteed to score extra points. He/She knows who he is and is a fan, I promise. No person with literary knowledge can say they weren't inspired in part by him to do what they do.

The best quote from To Kill a Mockingbird HAS to be:

"I remember when my daddy gave me that gun. He told me that I should never point it at anything in the house; and that he'd rather I'd shoot at tin cans in the backyard. But he said that sooner or later he supposed the temptation to go after birds would be too much, and that I could shoot all the blue jays I wanted - if I could hit 'em; but to remember it was a sin to kill a mockingbird. Well, I reckon because mockingbirds don't do anything but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat people's gardens, don't nest in the corncrib, they don't do one thing but just sing their hearts out for us. ... It's a sin to kill a mockingbird." - Atticus Finch

If you meant a quote from someone ABOUT TKMB you'd have to go with Truman Capote's "I don't see what all the fuse is about". Harper Lee had been his assistant and he was a bit ticked about being upstaged by her.

If you're looking for a book report type quote, how about:

"Alabama. The deep south. Many years ago. Little Jean Louise "Scout" Finch is a young southern girl about to start school. Her brother, Jeremy "Jem," is already in school. They live in the small Alabama town of Maycomb with their father, Atticus Finch, a widowed lawyer, and the nanny/maid, Calpurnia.

Scout and Jem are typical innocent children living a care-free life. But that innocence is about to be shattered when a terrible, tragic event occurs.

Tom Robinson, an African American, is arrested and sccused of raping a white girl, Mayella Ewell. Atticus is asked to defend Tom Robinson in court, something the townsfolk do not think very highly of at all. So even suggest that Atticus do next to nothing to help Tom Robinson. But as Atticus puts it, "He wouldn't be able to hold his head up in the town again."

Atticus knows that Tom Robinson is innocent. But the rest of the town doesn't. Everyone whose anyone thinks he got to be guilty. Tom's only chance is the honor bound Atticus Finch, determinded to see that the "trial of the century" so to speak does not turn into a miscarriage of justice.

Atticus must balance his duties as Tom Robinson's lawyer while being a father to his children, making sure that once the trial is over, the children's innocense isn't completely lost."

Good luck

“'To Kill A Mockingbird' is one of the great American books. It covers some important topics like censorship, literacy and gender, which are still very much prevalent today as they were during that time.”
