I can only do a chart using bars or columns but I want to make a linear, chart to compare two variables.

How can I do it?

With Excel - put in your data and use the chart wizard.
Don't use Word for this - it's a word processor, not a number processor. That's Excel's job.

Once you put your data into Excel, use the chart wizard

the first step is choosing the type of chart you want. change it from bar graph to the type you need
