I went the other way...

You need 20,736 square inches of walk, and each brick is 32 square inches.

20,736 in^2 / 32 in^2 per brick = 648 bricks

18 4 inch bricks to make a walk 6 feet long. 36 8 inch bricks to make a walk 24 feet long.
Multiply the 6 feet by 12 to make 72 inches. Then divide 72 by 4... 18.
Multiply the 24 feet by 12 to make 288. Divide by 8 to make 36.
Converting feet to inches is simply multiplying the feet by 8.
You need twice as many 4 inch bricks to make a path the same length as any one made up by 8 inch bricks, as 8/4 = 2.

Hope that helps.

Change the size of the walk from feet to inches. so you would have 72 x 288 inches which = 20736 sq inches. Your bricks are 4x8 which is 32 sq inches. 20736 / 32= 648 So you would need at least 648 bricks. You will need more than that to make up for breakage, uneven edges, corners etc.

1 sq. foot is equal to 144 sq. inches. So convert 6x24' to inches:

6 x 12 = 72
24 x 12 = 288

72 x 288 = 20,736 Totoal area of the walk in sq. inches

4 x 8 = 32. Total area of the bricks

divide the total sidewalk by the area of the bricks:

20,736 / 32 = 648.

It would take 648 bricks.

each brick is 1/3 x 2/3 feet = 2/9 square feet

you need 144 square feet of bricks

144/(2/9) = 144*9/2 = 648 bricks
